You can control the progression of congestive heart failure with a good compliance rate. Start with taking all of your medications as prescribed.
Your primary care provider and cardiologist should see you at least twice per year. Congestive heart failure needs close monitoring, and any change in your condition should be reported to your physician immediately. It would help if you weighed yourself at least weekly, and any weight gain should be reported to your doctor.
Your body may be retaining water. If you are underweight, lose weight to prevent further damage to your heart muscle. The larger your body, the harder your already damaged heart has to work to supply much-needed oxygen and nutrients.
If you want to lose a little weight, that’s great. But losing weight isn’t enough to improve your heart failure. It would be best if you did more. However, increasing your activity level will help relieve your symptoms and may improve your quality of life.
Things like parking far from the store, taking a few extra steps when you have to go, or walking is great for congestive heart failure.
More people are becoming aware of the benefits of walking around the mall as a workout. This also helps make shopping at the mall a bit more social. But, always be careful. The more people walk around the mall, the fewer people shop in the mall.
Make sure you get the appropriate medical clearance before starting any exercise program. You want to avoid fluid overload, which can only be achieved by limiting your drink number.
I recommend drinking lots of water to help you reduce the work your heart needs to do. You know you are thirsty because your body holds on to fluid and salt.
Tobacco smoke has many harmful chemicals and causes cancer and lung diseases. One should avoid smoking.
Get healthy – it takes a lot of energy for your body to fight off everyday illnesses like the flu virus. Make sure to stay up to date on your vaccinations, especially if you’ve had a history of serious illness. And don’t take any unnecessary risks!
