The Bad Thing is that you have no one to blame for them but yourself. Pretentious Game, Pretentious Game 2, and Pretentious Game 3 by Keybol take a close look at difficult life choices, heartbreak, and the pursuit of happiness (or, if you’re in your twenties, it takes a look at a typical week).
Each of the three episodes comprises several different puzzle levels. In each level, you play the role of a character. Your goal stays the same throughout, but to solve the puzzles, you’ll need to use the WASD keys to walk, jump and reach the other characters or the other side of the level.
There are so many puzzles in this Game that the designers probably had to do a lot of work to hide the clues and trick-or-treat gameplay. It is also a good example of a game that hides a complex puzzle solution while still being able to reflect emotional states accurately.
I think the Game would benefit from longer games, but it’s still easy enough that it’s a fun and quick game that you’d want to play through once or twice.
While the story may be a little unbelievable at times, the main character is relatable. I found the series very engaging, especially in the later seasons when the plot begins to slow down and the characters gain depth and develop.
Pretentious Game is deceptively simple, but it goes farther and deeper than it might seem at the beginning. The visual style and the puzzle elements in this Game are fun to play, even if you don’t identify with the protagonist’s views.
