A slightly updated version for modern systems that features some light visual tweaks, seemed like an opportunity to free the developer’s quirky action game from the Wii U’s limitations and let it shine as a more traditional action game.
Platinum knows action games. Of course, they do. They make them. And the nature of the game’s design “drawing” weapons and fighting as a cluster of dozens of superheroes—remains clumsy, regardless of the hardware.
The Wonderful 101 is an epic game of heroes, but not just any hero, it’s a team of heroes. You command your team, and each member has unique abilities that can be used to overcome your enemies.
The Wonderful 101 is an awesome, campy, colorful adventure with everything you’d want to see in a tokusatsu action game from the late ‘70s, ‘80s, or early ‘90s. Director Hideki Kamiya has put together a wonderful tribute to tokusatsu and retro video games, and if you’re into that kind of thing then this is an awesome game for you.
To fight off bad guys in this game, I need to use the controls like the other games in the series like pressing R2 or L1 and moving the cursor around the screen and once I do, all of my abilities will work, just as they do in every other game.
This is the power of the Unite Morph. It’s an ever-growing arsenal of combat tools used by the international superheroes called Wonderful 100, or Wonderful One Hundred (Plus One). They’re purchased from an in-game shop similar to systems in other Kamiya-led series like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. The heroes of the Unite Morph universe are people! On the Wii U, Unite Morphs can be summoned by drawing on the GamePad’s touchscreen.

The Wonderful 101 PS4 Remastered – Walkthrough
On a PS4, I played Wonderful 101 Remastered on the system, drawing can be done using the right analog stick or the DualShock 4 touchpad. Neither reliably worked for me 100% of the time, but the touchpad performed better than I expected.
Platinum games are more forgiving than your average Action game so drawing flubs is seldom disastrous. You can take plenty of damage, heal up with items, and mash your way through many challenges more easily than a Bayonetta or Vanquish.

Don’t Focus On Just One Enemy
Focus on one enemy. It might get pretty hectic and hard to focus, but a key tip when fighting is to not focus on one enemy. Instead, focus on what’s in front of you.
If you fight many enemies at once, you’re likely to be attacked by more of them. It makes sense: If you’re taking out one enemy, they’re less likely to hit you. The best example is when fighting two tanks at once. The best way to play The Wonderful 101 is to jump between the opponents while trying to avoid damage and have your Wonder team scattered across the field.
Attack at the right moment and the tanks will be surprised. For the tanks, you need to be quick to block their projectile. That’s when you have the advantage over them. The game doesn’t require a high score, but it does ask that you focus on timing, making it easier to beat the other players.
Practice Your Lines in The Wonderful 101
You can learn all about the Unite Morph mechanic by practicing your lines. Using the right thumbstick you can draw circles to use Wonder Red’s fist for great close-range combat.
By drawing a straight line, you’ll get Wonder Blue’s sword. It takes some practice to execute properly, but it is worth it. The Wonderful 101 has you collecting heroes in stages, and their shapes change to reflect the shape of the Wonder Wall. It’s difficult to notice at first, but eventually, you will.
The best move is to stay stationary and then just draw the triangle shape. Then when you get a good rhythm you can add in combos as easy as pie.

Dodge, Duck, Dip, and Dive
You have to learn to block and dodge and get used to the mechanics of this game. Buy them as soon as you complete the Prologue level. This is a really fun skill that can help you in many situations in this game.
Just be sure to not dodge too late, or you’ll certainly get smacked by enemies. It is important to keep your patience when playing. This is what allows you to use a powerful defensive tool.
Be alert to your enemy’s attacks. If you successfully block them, you’ll have a window to string some combos and strike back at those defenseless robots.
Take Advantage of Custom Blocks
Custom Blocks are a way to upgrade your Wonder team with the help of in-game currency. They’re easy to overlook, but they do give your Wonder team more of an advantage in battle, allowing for some new strategic options as you play.
